Hui-ā-Tau is the flagship annual conference of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa. It brings together members of the Māori legal profession — lawyers, judges, academics, students and leaders — alongside whānau, hapū and iwi, to share knowledge and strengthen the collective.
Koiritia Te Ture
Honouring our foundations. Shaping our future.
Koiritia Te Ture, coined by Co-President Wi Pere Mita, draws on the imagery of koiri — movement, shifting and engagement.
The theme invites us to look back to our foundations, reflect on the relationship between Māori and the law, consider where we stand today, and collectively contemplate the future of the Māori legal profession and the role of Te Hunga Rōia Māori within it.
Through Koiritia Te Ture, Hui-ā-Tau 2026 will create space for reflection, robust discussion and facilitated wānanga — bringing together the Māori legal profession to share perspectives, challenge ideas and help shape the future direction of Te Hunga Rōia Māori and the profession we serve.
For me, Koiritia Te Ture speaks to looking back so we know how to move forward. My artwork reflects our history, our whakapapa and the foundations laid by those who came before us, while looking towards Hawaiki Hou and the next generation of Māori lawyers. The kupu throughout the work speak to those foundations and the kaupapa we continue to carry forward.
At the centre is a wahine Māori, grounded in who she is and where she comes from, holding the Te Hunga Rōia Māori tohu in her hands. She represents the next generation and the future of our profession, surrounded by the words and aspirations of those who came before her.
The bold, bright colours reflect the energy and optimism of what lies ahead, while the horizon represents Hawaiki Hou. We inherit what others fought for, and with that inheritance comes a responsibility to carry it forward and create space for those who come next.

Co-Tumuaki
Season-Mary Downs (Te Kapotai, Ngāti Hine, Ngāpuhi) is Co-Tumuaki of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa and a Director of Tukau Law. Season-Mary provides leadership and oversight for Hui-ā-Tau 2026, helping guide the kaupapa and direction of this year’s conference.

Wi Pere Mita (Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Te Whānau a Kai, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Rakaipaaka, Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Maniapoto, Waikato, Ngāi Tahu) is Co-Tumuaki of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa. Wi Pere brings his legal, governance and commercial experience to key programme and delivery decisions for Hui-ā-Tau 2026.
Hui-ā-Tau 2026 Executive Coordinator
Casey Treanor (Te Arawa) is the Bay of Plenty Representative for Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa and Director of Treanor Law. Casey coordinates the Executive’s involvement in Hui-ā-Tau 2026, bringing the organising rōpū together, coordinating actions and follow-ups, and helping keep planning on track.
General Manager
Huhana Rolleston (Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Tarāwhai, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui) is the Pou Matua (General Manager) of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa. With extensive experience in Māori legal and governance matters, Huhana provides strategic leadership for the Society and works closely with the Executive to deliver Hui-ā-Tau 2026.
Event Manager
Tania David (Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi) is Director of TKD Events Ltd and Event Manager for Hui-ā-Tau 2026. Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in 2011, she has over 15 years’ event management experience, she leads the planning and delivery of the conference, including logistics, suppliers, stakeholder engagement and coordination.
Event Coordinator
Stacey Konui (Ngāti Tūwharetoa) is an Event Coordinator with TKD Events Ltd. She supports the planning and delivery of Hui-ā-Tau 2026, bringing strong organisational skills and experience working alongside whānau, hapū and iwi to deliver kaupapa Māori initiatives.
