Judge Ophir Cassidy was appointed to the District Court in 2021 and was the first female District Court Judge to wear a moko kauae. Prior to her appointment, she was a Principal at Manukau Law. Judge Cassidy presides at the Waitākere District Court and also serves as a Youth Court Judge, leading Ngā Kōti Rangatahi, which incorporates Māori cultural practices into the judicial process for rangatahi Māori.
