Kaiwhakawā Alana Thomas

Kaiwhakawā Alana Thomas was appointed a Judge of the Māori Land Court in 2023 and sits within the Aotea and Waikato-Maniapoto districts. She is also a member of the Waitangi Tribunal. Throughout her legal career, Judge Thomas has represented iwi and hapū on matters relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, whenua, the environment, the moana, tikanga Māori and te reo Māori. She is a strong advocate for the promotion of te reo Māori and its recognition and use within the law.
